The Problem
The residential lawn care market is often characterized by fragmented scheduling, opaque pricing, and manual payments. For homeowners, finding a reliable landscaper can be a slow, word-of-mouth process. For landscapers, optimizing their daily routes and managing payments across dozens of clients is a significant administrative burden.
Green Clippings was designed to solve this by creating a real-time, on-demand marketplace that connects homeowners with professional, verified landscapers through a seamless mobile interface.
Technical Architecture
I architected the Green Clippings iOS app using a robust MVVM-C (Model-View-ViewModel-Coordinator) pattern to manage the complex, multi-stage booking flows.
The app features a sophisticated Real-Time Logistics Engine that uses MapKit and Core Location to handle service area fencing, route optimization for landscapers, and real-time technician tracking for homeowners.
Key Engineering Decisions
The Precision Map Engine. To ensure accurate service bookings, I implemented a custom geofencing system using MapKit. This allows landscapers to define their exact service boundaries and enables homeowners to see the real-time location of their technician as they approach the property.
Secure, Multi-Tier Payments. I integrated Stripe to handle a variety of transaction types, including one-time bookings and recurring subscriptions. The system is designed with a "funds hold" mechanism that only releases payment to the landscaper after the homeowner has confirmed the completion of the work.
Offline-Resilient Job Tracking. Landscapers often work in areas with poor cellular coverage. I built an offline-first job management layer using Core Data, allowing technicians to log job milestones (arrival, progress, completion) without an active connection. The data is then automatically synchronized with the backend as soon as a connection is restored.

Green Clippings has significantly improved the efficiency of the lawn care market. Key milestones include:

Future Improvements
I would look into integrating AI-based Image Recognition to allow homeowners to take a photo of their yard and receive an instant, automated service quote based on the size and complexity of the terrain.
